The Triangle’s newsroom, located in Creese Student Center Suite 050, will be dedicated to Drexel University alumni and former 1971-72 editor-in-chief Larry Marion and renamed The Larry Marion Newsroom. Marion has endowed The Triangle to ensure that the student newspaper never stops operating again, which occurred during the 2021-22 academic year due to funding issues.

Marion started the Triangle Alumni Advisory Board in 2023 as a way for alumni to help the current Triangle staff with funding, operations and general journalism guidance. The current members of the alumni board include four former Triangle editor-in-chiefs: Richard Lampert (1968-69), Michael Avena (2018-19) and Kiara Santos (2022-23).

Upon joining The Triangle in 1968, Marion primarily wrote for the news section, with a passion for investigative pieces. While he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering, he changed career paths due to his involvement with The Triangle, pursuing a master’s in journalism from Northeastern University.

“The Triangle gave me a career, and in many ways gave me a life,” Marion said.

In 1994, Marion started a multi-media publishing company called The Triangle, named after the student newspaper.

“Once you’ve worked with a group of people and produced something every week and had a lot of fun doing it, you wanna do that again,” Marion explained.

Since Marion’s life was so heavily impacted by The Triangle, he considers his ability to now endow the organization as “the opportunity to pay it forward.”

Marion has high hopes for the publication’s future.

“I hope that it thrives and that everyone has fun learning and doing journalism,” Marion stated.

The current Triangle staff is grateful for Marion’s generosity and passion for student journalism and hopes to continue serving the mission that he has championed.
