January 24-25 brings about Drexel’s annual Homecoming Week — a way for the Drexel community to come together through events such as the iconic bonfire, a variety of fun stands and games on Lancaster Walk or the basketball games that bring a boost of school spirit and vigor.

On Saturday, January 25, the Men’s basketball team played their long-term rival, the Delaware Blue Hens, as a part of Drexel Homecoming MMXXV.

There was buzz throughout the gym as the countdown on the clock winded down towards the start of the game when students, parents and onlookers alike filed into the arena. Arguably, the DAC was the most packed it has been in a while.

As the game kicked off, players Victor Panov, Shane Blakeney, Kobe MaGee, Jason “Deuce” Drake and Cole Hargrove started for the Dragons.

To start the game off right, the Dragons won the tip-off, and within the first minute, the Blue Hens fouled. To continue the streak of luck, MaGee started off the scoring with a beautiful three less than two minutes into the game. He follows this up with a layup, putting Drexel ahead by five only three minutes into the game

The first half of the game ended with Drexel leading 35-32. With the halftime score being so close, it was a happy distraction for fans when the halftime games commenced, and the Drexel spirit and cheer team wowed the crowds with their choreography.

The second half of the game started with a three from MaGee. The second half also saw play by Yame Butler, who was suspended for the first half of the game. With 10 minutes left on the clock and a score of 52-48, the Dragons started to widen the scoring gap between the Blue Hens. However, the Blue Hens remained consistent in trying to catch up.

To end Homecoming weekend on a high note, Drexel was triumphant against Delaware with a score of 67-54. Of the Dragons, Kobe MaGee scored the highest with 22 points. This was Drexel’s fifth straight time defeating Delaware and the Blue Hens final game in the DAC as a member of the CAA, as they are soon joining Conference USA as a full-league member.

This weekend, the Dragons are set to play Townson before their next home game on Feb. 6 against William and Mary.
