Dear Triangle staff, readers and alumni,
I have been struggling to form the correct string of words to convey how much the Triangle means to me. Truthfully, there is no arrangement that can explain how hard it is to say goodbye to the newspaper and staff that have been a critical part of my life for the last five years.
The Triangle was the first organization that I joined at Drexel University during my freshman year in 2020. I started out as an Arts & Entertainment writer, then co-chief A&E editor, then managing editor and finally editor-in-chief up until the end of this Winter term.
The most important thing I learned as editor-in-chief is to lean on my staff. I have worked alongside all of you for many hours in the Creese basement, and while taxing on all of us at times, the Triangle has never faltered from being a place that fosters student journalism, community, work and friendship. While our common goal is to put out a paper with quality content every two weeks, it is the fact that we have created something meaningful together that keeps us wanting to do it again. Thank you so much for every GBM, every prod night, every game night, every staff dinner and every beach trip. Thank you so much for continuing to do it all again with me.
As someone who thought she would never find her place in college, I am so happy and grateful that I found the Triangle. While I am graduating as both a better leader and a better person due to my time at the Triangle, I am also graduating with lifelong friendships, memories and more photos of our office and the people in it than I have of anything else in my phone. I would never trade this experience for the world.
To our alumni, thank you so much for your unwavering support and guidance. You helped us bring our paper back to life, and for that we are eternally grateful. It is an honor and a privilege to be graduating knowing that the Triangle will keep operating far into the future.
To our readers, thank you for reading our hard work. Thank you for letting us be your informant, your voice and for taking our print editions when we distribute them at the Dragon Statue and on campus. It means everything to us. If you are a Drexel student, please consider joining the Triangle. You absolutely will not regret it.
To all of you, thank you for letting me make mistakes, grow and find my footing in front of you. When I first started college, I did not expect to pursue journalism as a career, and now I am so sad to be leaving and would give anything to have this experience again. But, do not think that just because I am graduating that you can get rid of me that easily. I will still be an avid reader, subscriber and supporter of the Triangle, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for all of you. I know it will be amazing.
Best,
Sophia Mattia
Editor-in-Chief
