USA LA MELAZA 2

USA LA MELAZA 2 is the second installment of an international print making collaboration between Puerto Rican and North American Printmakers. This show brings together the talents of Grimaldi “Barbarian” Baez, Omar “Pickle Fingers” Velazquez, Kyle “Canned-Tux” Nilan, Patrick “Print Wraith” Casey and Eli “The Word” Epstein for a three-week studio project at Union Press in Boston, Mass. and ECO Fortress in Providence, R.I. Melaza (molasses) is a slow moving sweet by-product of processing sugar; USA LA MELAZA 2 is slow moving group of sweet dudes who consider their best art to be high art. Over the past year the artists of La Melaza worked and showed in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Now they are in the USA and eager to share their inspired works with you. La Melaza is a traveling project bringing together Puerto Rican and North American Printmakers and forging alternative avenues for travel and art making.

Philadelphia Navy Week 2011

Philadelphia Navy Week celebration gives area residents an opportunity to meet some of the Navy’s Sailors and learn about the Navy’s critical mission and its broad-ranging capabilities. Events will take place throughout the city, which include The United States Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, which is a demonstration of choreographed skills by naval aviators. The Navy Bands perform at Navy Weeks, official Navy functions, Navy Recruiting efforts and related community events. The bands are comprised of top rated musicians who perform in various musical groups. The Navy Simulator is a 12-passenger mobile unit that features live-action Navy films programmed to move in sync with point-of-view imagery presented on a large screen. This gives interested recruits a firsthand, interactive experience.

Food Tour: Philadelphia Flavors Exposed

The “Philadelphia Food Tour … Flavors Exposed” takes place in the heart of Philadelphia. This tasting adventure includes Philly cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, pizza and more. Led by a culinary adventure specialist, you will learn about Philadelphia’s food history and how some of these iconic foods came to life. You will walk away with food in your tummy and some knowledge of the best places to eat in Philadelphia. Memorial Day Weekend Celebration at the National Constitution Center

This Memorial Day weekend, the National Constitution Center celebrates the people and events of our nation’s past. The American Flag will be raised each morning during a special ceremony at the center. Guests are invited to join in this event to learn proper flag-raising protocol. Memorials: How a Nation Remembers will take place at noon and 2 p.m. Learn about monuments across the country, including Little Bighorn, the U.S.S. Arizona and the Lincoln Memorial. Patriotic Karaoke and Craft Activity Tables from noon to 3 p.m. Sing your favorite American anthems, and create memorial poppy pins, American flags and American star memorial wreathes at activity tables. Pennsylvania’s Liberty Tree Birthday will be held from 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. As the home of Pennsylvania’s Liberty Tree, the Center will honor its “birthday” with the compelling story of this living memorial.

Hang Free in Fairmount Park

Hang Free is a free, bi-annual outdoor party that occurs in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia. We provide DJs spinning music in an outdoor, casual atmosphere, where there is no cost to hang and listen.
