Hang Free Memorial Day Party

Hang Free is a biannual outdoor party that takes place in Fairmount Park. It is managed by two promoters, Andrew Davidson of Under Design and Stacy Papa of Soul City Workout, as well as a whole host of supporters, friends and disc jockeys. It is a venue for local jocks to spin their new, experimental sounds in a casual outdoor atmosphere where there is no cost for visitors to hang and listen. Therefore, Hang Free.

Teal Ribbon 5K Race Against Time

The ninth annual Teal Ribbon 5K race is one of many events hosted by the Teal Ribbon Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation Inc. to raise funds to advance ovarian cancer research toward a cure. The nonprofit organization also advocates for early diagnostic treatment programs and to improve the lives of ovarian cancer survivors. Participate in this race to help their cause!

Hidden City Festival 2013 Block Party

Hidden City is the innovative program that includes nine of Philadelphia’s most unusual and remarkable spaces animated by an artist project that asks you not only to look but also to participate. All festival sites open are open Thursday through Sunday. Therefore, to kick off the opening of these sites, Hidden City invites you to celebrate with them at their 2013 Festival Block Party at the Goldtex Building! The event will feature live entertainment from artists like City Rain, DJ Adrian Hardy, and DJ Lina Luv, in addition to a dance party under the Reading Viaduct. There will also be food from gourmet food trucks like Spot Burgers and The Dapper Dog. So come out and celebrate with Hidden City!

40th Street Summer Series

University City District, The Rotunda and the University of Pennsylvania come together again this year to present the 40th Street Summer Series, a free family-friendly outdoor concert series in University City. For nine years, the Summer Series has hosted world-renowned performers on the green space at 40th and Walnut streets, just behind the Walnut West Free Library. This year the series will expand to five concerts on the last Saturday of each month from May to September, complete with the Give & Take Jugglers, fire artists, face painting, balloon art and more. The 40th Street Summer Series is sponsored by AroundPhilly, Ben FM, Ben & Jerry’s, Campus Philly, the Philadelphia City Paper, The Daily Pennsylvanian, Grid Magazine, Homewood Suites, Philly Pretzel Factory, Metro, Philadelphia Weekly, Philly Fun Guide, UC Review, UCNet and the University of Pennsylvania. The Brooklyn Qawwali Party, an 11-piece Pakistani brass band, will be the first to perform in this summer series.

Fourth annual Wing King Competition

It’s time again for BigBite’s fourth annual chicken wing competition, known as Wing King. Twenty-five avid local cooks will compete to be named the fourth annual Wing King. Free beer is provided by the leading sponsor, Narragansett Beer, and food will be included for all who attend. Competitors will get to showcase their culinary skills in front of several notable Philly restaurant chefs, critics and beyond! Winners will be announced between 6:30 and 7 p.m. and will be granted bragging rights for the year and the legendary BigBite trophy.
