We are breaking our very first rule of Arts and Entertainment to never write in first person, just for this one letter. We had the great pleasure of serving as Co-Chief A&E Editors until the beginning of this quarter. Soon, we will walk across Citizens Bank’s field and leave Drexel University, and the Triangle, behind. As we grapple with all the emotions of graduation, one has lingered with us most: this newspaper has shaped our college careers in innumerable ways. Before we go, we wanted to share with our readers everything the Triangle means to us, in the hopes that you will also celebrate the institutions that shaped your years at Drexel.
As editors, our greatest joy was always our staff. Within these pages, you will find original, creative, insightful and even funny articles from equally amazing authors. We hope that when you read the paper, you notice not just headlines but bylines too. The writers are the life of this paper who go too often unrecognized.
We started with just two writers, and by the end of our term as editors, we had writers filling up the A&E office all the way up to the door. It has been such a joy to watch our writers grow, improve and find their voice in journalism, while we learned right alongside them. We cannot express how incredibly proud we are to see the next generation of writers step into leadership roles—writers we had the chance to mentor, and who we now get to cheer on as they take the reins.
Being a part of A&E has also been incredibly rewarding and has helped us find purpose. We have had the opportunity to highlight the works of so many local artists, both at Drexel and around Philly. In the process, we have come to deeply appreciate the time, effort and heart it takes to create something meaningful. So next time you’re out exploring the city, take a moment to check out the local artists, performers and spaces around you. They deserve all the recognition they can get.
Above all, we often talk about how lost both of us felt before finding a sense of community here at the Triangle. We have spent countless hours in the Creese basement, working alongside other editors, sharing laughs, long nights and so many memories. More than anything, we have built friendships we know will persist beyond college. There have been several weeks when we had a Triangle event every single day, and somehow, we would still be excited to see each other for a sixth day. That’s how much we love and enjoy each other’s company. So if you’re still looking for your place, we promise: you will find it. And when you do, it will make your college experience so much richer. This organization was that place for us, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
We leave the Triangle with only one regret. We wish we had joined the Triangle sooner. It is a little daunting to imagine our Wednesdays without sharing our peak and pit at the Triangle GBM every week, but we’ll always cherish every moment we spent here. We’re so proud of everything this team has built, and we can’t wait to see how the next generation of editors and writers will continue to grow and take this organization even further.
Our advice to underclassmen would be to take every leap. These four or five years will go by faster than you ever realize. Embrace any opportunity that comes your way. And to those graduating, congratulations. We hope the Triangle was a part of your time here, and we wish you all the best of luck.
Sincerely,
Sarah and Suhani
