
Drexel Women’s varsity 8+ boat was named CAA Co-Boat of the Week on April 22. The boat composed of rowers Lauren Shaw, Emily Ellis, Ellen McCallin, Margaret Dobrenko, Hannah Walseth, Taylor Powell, Colette Zidek, Baylor Henry and Sabrina Batdorf led their team to the Dragons seventh straight victory at the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River. The Dragons finished five seconds ahead of La Salle’s boat, with a time of 7:42.35.
The Kerr Cup would not be the only award Drexel Women’s Rowing would capture, as just a week later, on April 26, the varsity 8+ team took home the Kelly Cup. Additionally, Drexel’s second varsity 8+ and 3rd varsity 8+ boats captured gold during the race. Varsity 4+ came in close, by taking an admirable second place in their race.
Drexel’s 2V8+ boat beat La Salle’s boat 27 seconds ahead with a time of 7:44:5 at the finish line. The Dragons who led the boat to victory included rowers: Erin Ernst, Ariana Townsend, Sarah Ghazaz, Maggie Horgan, Fiona Steele, Lila Seidenberg, Kieran Harrington, Lauren Boyce and Grace Conroy.
The 3V8+ defeated Temple’s boat by a whopping 30 seconds with a finish time of 8:29.4. The athletes who led the crew to the cup included: Belen Rosales, Paige Hartshorn, Alyssa Bucci, Marley Kronemeyer, Giulia Nevrotski, Chloe Zaragoza, Keren Bongwele, Paulina Restrepo and Paige McFadden.
The varsity 4+ boat, made up of athletes Katie O’Donnell, Kari Prosperi, Delaney Gellert, Jaelyn Walsh and Lily Gramlich, came in a close and admirable second place in their race with a time of 8:31.9. The rowers were a little less than 10 seconds behind Penn’s boat, who won the race at time 8:22.1.
These Dragons were also celebrating Senior Day when they made their profound race victories and won the Kelly Cup. Before their races, the team honored athletes Rosales, Steele, Dobrenko, Ellis, Delaney Gellert, Henry, McCallin and Powell for their dedication to the team and strength they have to assist the Dragons to continued success.
