On April 13, Drexel’s Flux club partnered with Depop to put on a memorable Boiler Room-inspired event, showcasing Drexel’s very own talent. The event consisted of six DJs, with all of them showcasing their particular style and musical preferences. The headliners included Moa (@moausic),Obvi (@olivervecillio), Xonrah (@xonrah), Inhopane, Rettagem (@rettagem) and Chazza News (@eternalriot).

The night was colored with melodies of all varieties, from 2000’s hits and mixes to EDM and other rave classics, such as techno, house, breakcore and hardstyle. It was most definitely a night to remember. On top of this, the event celebrated the Drexel community and its talent. While Flux has a reputation for attracting quite a crowd, it is time more Drexel students are made aware of the amazing events that take place right here on campus.

Flux is a completely student-led music organization that seeks to highlight Drexel and local up-and-coming Philadelphia artists by throwing shows and events on campus, all of which are open to the public. The organization accepts all Drexel students looking to get into promoting or managing events within various musical scenes. Flux showcases musicality of all kinds, and whether they are indie rock or electronic music events, Flux is sure to put on a performance that is both professional and memorable.

Flux has a series of signature events they put together each year, including their Halloween show, Women’s History Month show, and their “Lighting Round”—a battle of the freshman bands. Additionally, Flux puts on an annual music festival known as “Lawn Jawn” every spring. This year’s Lawn Jawn festival will take place on Friday, May 30, where they will close off the streets to bring in a variety of vendors for the crowds. Any other brilliant event ideas typically come from club members and/or fans, which are then promoted via their Instagram, @drexelflux.

While, at first glance, it may seem that Flux requires a great deal of musical and promotional expertise, the organization is open to all majors and all levels of experience. According to club president Raagavi Venkatesh, a ‘25 Music Industry major, Flux is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to get into marketing, social media and PR, photography/videography, graphic design or promoting and booking events. “I’ll rarely say no to any ideas,” she said. The club seeks to take risks, and they are open to ideas of any kind that celebrate their love of music.

Flux also offers their services to anyone looking to book an event that is in need of performers or lighting and sound assistance. It is also fantastic for audience members looking for sober events and to get away from the sometimes hostile music scenes across the city, as they always have public safety personnel on site. Flux has seen continued growth in membership and fanbase over the past two or so years, and as their numbers continue to climb, they continue their legacy of companionship and a love of music.
