Men’s and women’s tennis grab wins against Hofstra

The Drexel University men’s and women’s tennis teams played against Hofstra University at the Drexel Armory, April 3. Seniors Erin Bowsher and Xabier Saavedra were being honored at these matches for the women’s and men’s teams, respectively.

Both teams managed to get a win, increasing their overall season winning score. Men’s tennis won by a score of 4-1, making their overall record 11-6 for the season. Xabier Saavedra, on his day of honor, played at number one singles and won his match 6-4, 7-5. Andrew Sinai played at number two singles and came up with a winning score of 6-3, 6-3.

Balaji Lakshmanan and Daniil Ginzburg had unfinished matches but managed to win the first set with a score of 6-3 for Lakshmanan and a bagel for Ginzburg. Hamza Laalej had a very close match, winning in a second set tiebreak; 7-5, 7-6 (2).

Sinan Orhon won his match at fourth singles, with a match score of 6-3, 6-0. Laalej and Ginzburg paired up for first doubles, and lost with a score of 6-4. Orhon and Ashok lost in second doubles, with a score of 6-2. Saavedra and Lakshmanan managed to get a win for the Dragons with a score of 6-0. The men will next play at the University of Delaware April 10. The women’s team also grabbed a win against Hofstra University, with a score of 4-1, making their overall season record 12-4. Honami Yazawa, playing at first singles, and Erin Bowsher, playing at third singles, both won their matches with a score of 6-3, 6-2 and 7-5, 6-1 respectively.

Fiorella Coria and Ryshena Providence had unfinished matches with a score of 3-6, 6-1, (40-15) for Providence, 6-3, 5-1 (40-15) for Coria. Lea Winkler, also managed a win at number four singles with a score of 6-4, 6-2.

Bowsher lost her match at second singles with a score of 7-5, 6-1. Yazawa and Rodriguez Cruz paired up for first doubles and defeated Hofstra University with a score of 6-1. Bunch and Winkler won their match at second doubles, with a score of 6-0. Bowsher and Providence had an unfinished match with the lasting score of 3-4. The women also had a match against Towson University on Wednesday, April 6 where they dropped a 4-3 loss. They’ll  join the men’s team on the road at University of Delaware April 10.
