Golf places 13th at Big 5

Drexel University bounced back with a 13th-place finish out of 20 schools at last weekend’s Big 5 Invitational, hosted by Temple University in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. The Dragons scored a 630, 70 over par. They finished two shots behind the city rival La Salle University Explorers, who placed 12th with a score of 628, and seven shots in front of Brown University, who finished with a score of 637. Hartford University finished the tournament 49 over par, giving them their third tournament win of the season.

Drexel senior James Braunsberg led the Dragons with a score of 156 (15 over par) on the weekend. Freshman Christopher Crawford, senior Benjamin Feld and graduate Andrew Lawson tagged closely behind with scores of 160, 158 and 162, respectively, to ensure the Dragons a spot in the middle of the field against tough competition. They look to carry their momentum south to Powells Point, N.C., for an outing at the Old Dominion University/Outer Banks Collegiate Invitational starting Oct. 21.

The tournament includes a field of 18 schools, including last weekend’s Big 5 champion, Hartford. Most of the teams attending are schools Drexel happens to be familiar with from previous tournaments, such as Longwood University, George Mason University, The George Washington University, James Madison University, Elon University, the University of Delaware and Virginia Commonwealth University.

The Dragons didn’t get the results they were looking for in last year’s tournament at Powells Point. They look to turn things around and finish on a positive note, as this is the team’s final tournament of the fall season.
