The winner of The Wardrobe Boutique's inaugural recycled clothing competition, which challenged 16 Drexel design and merchandising students to create unique window displays, was announced during an awards reception held March 8 at the boutique.
Drexel design and merchandising students enrolled in the Visual Merchandising class competed in the challenge, for which they planned and executed their designs in a matter of weeks. From Feb. 25 to March 7, visitors to the boutique were able to vote for their favorite of three separate teams, each of which used recycled clothing and various staging products to construct their own unique window display exhibits.
"Native Design" was declared the winning team, having executed a detailed two-window display that emphasized a spring cleaning theme. The Spring Garden Street display highlighted a "before and after" theme in which a mannequin is completing her spring cleaning.
Members of "Native Design" will receive gift certificates to Armani Exchange and The Wardrobe Boutique for their creative display, entitled "Spring on Spring Garden," in addition to earning future merchandising opportunities with the clothing store.
Melanie Frazza, manager of the boutique and founder of the competition, was appreciative for the talent and skill all of the students brought to the table.
"We're a nonprofit and don't have a full staff or the resources to do all the amazing displays for the store that I wish we could," Frazza said. "[The competition has] really brought up the quality of the store - the customers are all happy and really excited, and think everything looks really beautiful,"
To view the displays, visit The Wardrobe Boutique at 1822 Spring Garden Street or the corresponding fan page on Facebook.
