The Drexel women's swimming and diving teams continue to be recognized for their fine performances in competition early this season.

For the second consecutive week, junior Katie Hynes was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Diver of the Week. Senior Katie McCann was honored with the CAA Swimmer of the Week award.

Hynes, who has been voted the CAA Women's Diver of the Year the past two seasons, led Drexel to victories over Delaware and Vermont on both one- and three-meter dives. She posted scores of 282.15 and 220.60 in the one-meter and three-meter dives, respectively.

Last week, Hynes dominated the same events in Drexel's first meet of the year, breaking both her own school and conference records in the one-meter dive with a score of 324.45. She would set yet another pool record for the three-meter diving event the very next day, posting a score of 335.15.

McCann won three of her freestyle events at the dual meet against Delaware. She had a time of 53.50 in the 100-meter, posted a 1:54.64 in the 200-meter, and in the 500-meter came through with a time of 5:04.27. McCann ended her outstanding weekend with a win in the 500-meter freestyle against Vermont.

Wrestling impressive in Bearcat Open

The Drexel wrestling team got its 2007-08 season off to a good start at the Bearcat Open in Birmingham, N.Y. as junior Steve Mytych and All-American senior Ryan Hluschak both went 4-0 on their way to taking first-place in their respective weight classes.

The 125-pound title Mytych took home after his 3-1 triumph over Virginia's Tyler Burke in the championship final was also his first career championship title. The Amateur Wrestling News currently ranks Mytych No. 17. His 28 victories last season was tied for second-highest on the team, behind only Hluschak.

Hluschak, who is ranked No. 7, defeated Cornell's Jordan Leen, 3-1, en route to winning the 157-pound title. Last season, Hluschak finished in eighth place at the NCAA Championships and was Drexel's second wrestler to be named an All-American.

Also competing at the Bearcat Open was a pair of Drexel freshmen. Justin Wieller and Bryant Deinhardt each placed sixth in their weight classes. Wieller went 4-3 in the tournament at 184 pounds, while Deinhardt was 3-3 at the 285-pound weight division.

The Dragons are back in action Nov. 17 when they will compete at the Cornell Body Bar Invitational. Hluschak went 4-0 in placing first at last year's Invitational, and he will be looking forward to having the same success this time around.
