Drexel students will no longer be subject to lottery or waiting list when applying for parking permits thanks to the completion of the parking garage renovation.
Drexel's parking garage, located on 34 and Market Streets, initially underwent its two-story expansion project in April of 2007, according to Drexel Parking Services Director David Jost.
The second elevator was put into service July 2007 and the project now only a few small tasks are left before being fully functional.
"The Drexel Parking Garage expansion project added two new parking levels, providing an additional 285 spaces, and two new elevators," said Jost. "The original four-deck garage is a cast in place post tension concrete structure; the new levels are galvanized steel pan decks with a concrete driving surface."
The renovations are expected to end the prior parking shortage at Drexel, abolishing the yearly lottery and relieving students of having to be put on a waiting list. Students will now be able to purchase one, two, three, or four consecutive terms of parking, with annual permits being valid fall through summer of the year.
Parking permits are already available upon completion of a parking registration form and payment of $339 per term. Forms can be found at the Drexel Parking Office at 34th and Market Streets or on the Parking Services website. Parking registration will continue until all spaces are filled.
