Softball splits road series with Hofstra

The Dragons split a doubleheader on the road with CAA-leading Hofstra, winning 5-2 in the first game and losing 8-2 in the second, April 29.
The first game's victory over the Pride was the first for the Dragons since 2003. Freshman Ashlee Veilleux held Hofstra to just two runs on two hits in nine innings of work. In addition, Veilleux ripped a double to right center field to lead off the ninth. Veilleux's leadoff hit led to a three-run inning for the Dragons.
Other notable Dragons performances came from Brianne Brown, Amanda Hastings, Christina Rodriguez and Kristen Beaver, whose RBI single in the ninth nailed the coffin shut. Veilleux's victory on the mound evened her record at 8-8.
The Dragons proved to be not as lucky in game two against Hofstra. Amanda Heyser pitched two scoreless innings for the Dragons before the Pride finally got the bats rolling in the third. In the fourth, Hofstra took a 6-0 lead with a grand slam by Ashley Lane. Brianne Brown and Amanda Hastings who each had one RBI for the Dragons. Amada Heyser took the loss for the Dragons, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings of work.
On April 30, the team closed out the series against Hofstra with a devastating 8-0 loss. In the defeat, the Dragons' record fell to 6-11 in conference play and 18-27 overall. Amanda Hastings and Kristen Beaver were the only two Dragons to reach base in the game.
The team will close out their regular season play against James Madison in a three-game series May 6 and 7. Seniors Amanda Heyser, Lauren Greenberg and Eva Noelsch will be honored as part of Senior Day ceremonies before Sunday's game.
