American Cancer Society of Southern N.J.
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer fundraiser will be held Oct. 23, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at Cooper River Park. This event serves to promote awareness for breast cancer research, education, patient and family services and sponsorship. Volunteers will be needed for registration during the event. Tea and Tour at YWCA of NCC
Join the YWCA of New Castle County for an hour-long open house to learn about the programs and services provided by the YWCA that help to empower women and stamp out racism. After a short presentation, visitors get to tour the facility's Home-Life Management Center, where families can find help to move from homelessness to self- adequacy. Refreshments will be served. For more information contact Genny Pitts at (302) 658-7161. This event takes place Oct. 19, 3 p.m.-4 p.m.
Bluegrass Bash
Daemion Counseling Center is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. The festivities will be capped off with the Bluegrass Bash Oct. 21. The event will have a live Bluegrass band, The Beth Coleman Band and a dance coach along with a silent auction and dinner. Five volunteers will be needed to help with decorating for the auction and a training session will be held before the event for registration and checkout. For more information call Sarah Gifford at (610) 647-1431. The Bluegrass Bash will take place 6 p.m.-11:30 p.m.
Read Aloud Del. Volunteer
Read Aloud Delaware-Kent County needs volunteers to read to preschool children one to two hours week at daycare centers in Kent County. Del. Training sessions will be held Oct. 26 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. RAD will also provide a trainer at this and all locations for groups of five or more. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age if they are volunteering alone, and younger volunteers ages 8 and over will need a parent or guardian with them. All volunteers must complete an application, citing two references, and those who are 18 and over must obtain a background check, provided free on site. Georgia Gregory School of Music
The Gregory School of Music needs five volunteers to assist in panning a gala event that will benefit the school. Volunteers who have training in special events are preferred, as the school will need help with fundraising events as well. For more information contact Joyce Drayton at (215) 430-0435. These meetings will take place Nov. 5-6, 6 p.m.-10 p.m.
Radnor Run
Join PENN Medicine at the 28th annual Radnor Run Oct. 30, 6:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. All participants will help benefit the American Lung Association of Pennsylvania as they continue towards their goal to raise awareness on asthma, smoking, clean air advocacy and funding local lung disease research. The ALA also works in conjunction with Open Airways for Schools, Sesame Street's "A Is for Asthma" campaign and Asthma Experience Camp programs. 60 volunteers are needed and they must be 16 years or older to participate.
