Group of 20 assaults student walking home on Hamilton St.

A University student was admitted to Presbyterian Hospital on the night of Feb. 15 after being assaulted by approximately 20 individuals while walking westbound on Hamilton St.
The assault, which occurred at 35th and Hamilton sts., was reported by the victim to have lasted approximately two to three minutes during which time a group of unidentified individuals attacked him with their fists. After the incident the student, whose identity remains confidential, proceeded to contact the Philadelphia Police Department and then went to Presbyterian Hospital's Emergency Room. Police Officer Deborah Jackson, of the 16th district, responded to the call; Jackson was unable to be reached for comment.
After being treated the student was released from Presbyterian Hospital at 10:11 p.m. Feb. 15. Prior to his discharge a receptionist with Presbyterian Hospital had contacted Public Safety to arrange an escort to see the student home safely, Dispatch Officer Brown responded to this call. When asked for details regarding the incident Brown declined to comment, stating he was prohibited from discussing the situation.
The student has since been contacted by a victim support advocate in the Department of Public Safety and states that he is doing fine. A follow up for the incident is scheduled to be conducted at a later date.
