DU appoints Voelker men's lacrosse coach

Drexel needed to go no further than down 33rd Street to find its new men's lacrosse head coach. Athletic Director Eric Zillmer announced today that former University of Pennsylvania men's lacrosse head coach Brian Voelker has been named the head coach at Drexel, replacing Chris Bates.

Bates resigns, headed to Princeton

Drexel men's lacrosse head coach Chris Bates has resigned to take over the head coaching position at Princeton University. "This is a great opportunity for me and my family," Bates said in a June 29 press release issued by Princeton's athletic department.

Bates will be tough to replace

Chris Bates brought 110 percent to the lacrosse field everyday. I never questioned that; I didn't have to. I could see it in his facial expression or his body language any time one of his players made a careless pass in his own end or took a foolish penalty which led to a man-advantage goal for the opposition.

Nicole Hester is as modest a person as you will meet. Fortunately for the recently graduated women's basketball standout, her well-documented battle against Hodgkin's Lymphoma and ultimate victory against the potentially fatal disease, speaks for itself - as do the awards that come along with it.

New logo will not change mediocre Sixers

Last week the 76ers unveiled their "new" team logo for the 2009-10 season. Well, it's not really new considering it's the same logo worn by the 1983 championship team, but it does serve a purpose. Over the last few seasons the Sixers have been a very mediocre franchise.
