Down by one with seven seconds remaining, the men's basketball team did what it was supposed to do on its final possession against George Mason - put the ball in the hands of its playmaker Scott Rodgers. Rodgers, normally well-adept at getting to the rim, got into the paint and it looked as though he would be able to hoist a buzzer-beating pull-up jumper to stun the Patriots and snap their 12-game home winning streak.
Marianna Uribe, Becca Drylie-Perkins and Charlotte Wood each netted three goals and the Dragons rolled to a 10-6 victory over the Eagles, fending off treacherous weather conditions Feb. 18 at Vidas Field. It was a complete team effort for Drexel (2-0) as it used pristine ball movement, communication and strong man-to-man defense to defeat the Eagles (0-1).
The men's wrestling team is hoping to end its regular season on a winning note. After its previous four matches, there is no reason why it should lose heading into the CAA Championships. Drexel defeated Rutgers 20-16 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center Feb.
The men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener to Virginia 13-7 Feb. 14 in Charlottesville, Va. The Cavaliers (1-0), ranked first in the country by Nike/Inside Lacrosse and second in the USILA poll, scored the game's first seven goals and cruised to victory.
The men's basketball team continues to defy all odds. The Dragons beat the Towson Tigers 78-65 Feb. 15 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Drexel's Tramayne Hawthorne had a game-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 shooting from the three-point line.
