Sports bar to replace Ecco Qui

Ecco Qui has closed and renovations have started for a new restaurant, Yardhouse American Grill and Sports Bar. Owner Joe Scarpa said he is closing Ecco Qui, because he is moving out of the area. Scarpa said the lease has already been transferred to the new owners.

Sinclair declines police chief position

Officials at Drexel University thought they found the first Director of Police Operations when they hired veteran Police Commander Michael Sinclair Sept. 2, but Sinclair told University officials he could not accept the position due to "personal reasons," according to those involved with the hiring.

RAD teaches new defense mechanisms

Beginning this fall, Drexel will offer Rape Aggression Defense hands-on self-defense classes to all female students, faculty and staff at no cost, according to Candace Wannamaker, director of Victim Support and Intervention. "We hear that students aren't feeling safe and this is offered as another set of tools," Wannamaker said.

Drexel committee to enhance recycling program

The Drexel Sustainability Committee met Aug. 26 to discuss Drexel's current recycling program and determine how to make the University more environmentally-friendly. Spearheaded by Drexel's Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff Carl Tobey Oxholm, the committee is composed of administrators and leaders from different departments of the University.

Sept. 1, 2008 VANDALISM 12:56 a.m. 3600 Powelton Ave. A complainant reported that her burgundy Honda Civic LX's rear passenger window was broken into. No valuables were taken. VANDALISM 7:52 a.m. 3600 Lancaster Ave. A Drexel student reported that his driver's side rear window was smashed out.
