The Pennsylvania State Police have selected Drexel University's campus as the main base of operations as they provide security for the National Governors Association conference in Philadelphia. Troopers from various units and locations across the state are staying in the Race Street Residence Hall from July 7 to July 15, officials said.
Drexel University Public Safety officials have linked three strong-arm robberies to the same suspect, prompting a campus alert issued July 19. The robberies were committed in the late evening and early morning in the area bound by 34th to 36th streets and Powelton Avenue to Spring Garden Street, according to a University-wide e-mail.
Dr. Nihat M. Bilgutay, 56, a professor and former head of Drexel's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, died July 1 at his home in Wallingford, Pa., after a two-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. During his 26 years at the University, Bilgutay was a driving force in the ECE department's success and growth, according to Moshe Kam, ECE department head and professor.

The Drexel University Archives and Special Collections have released the University's Presidential Papers, which chronicle changes over the University's history as affected by events including World War II and the civil rights movement. The papers include letters and other records from past University presidents, rosters of previous Drexel students, information on previous Drexel programs and a variety of other information relating to the University, according to Robert Sieczkiewicz, university archivist and the supervisor for the project.

In the age of highly interactive games such as the Wii, a group of six Drexel students have develeoped Lazybrains, a video game which requires no movement and only one's brain for the controller. Lazybrains is a brain-computer interface that uses the brain's concentration levels to control the character.
Linda Wilson, assistant professor of nursing for the College of Nursing and Health Professions, has been awarded a five-year grant of nearly $1.5 million from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration. The grant, "Faculty Development: Integrating Technology into Nursing Education and Practice," will enable Drexel to work with three other schools that "have entered into a collaborative agreement to incorporate the use of technology in their respective nursing undergraduate and graduate programs," according to a summary of the grant.

On Friday, June 13th Student Union Operations closed Ross Commons for the summer term for renovations. When the doors re-open in September, Ross Commons will provide students with more meeting room space, a small reception area for private events, an upgraded game room and a resource center that will include a copier and computers.
