Stratton robbery suspect arrested

The suspect wanted for robbing a Drexel University professor in Stratton Hall was arrested June 4 at approximately 3:30 p.m. in North Philadelphia while driving a stolen car and carrying a handgun, according to Drexel Public Safety officials. "We [detectives] knew the vehicle he was in," a Sergeant in the Philadelphia Police Department's Major Crimes Unit said.

Student leaders react to SAFAC

After student organizations received their annual allocations from Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee, some student representatives have said they did not receive enough money to allow the success and maintenance of their respective organizations. "I'm the president of the Drexel Football Team and the treasurer for the women's rugby team, and I was disappointed with how much money both of my organizations received," Rose Dillon, a pre-junior and chemical engineering major, said.

Obama claims primary

Following the endorsement of several key superdelegates and a delegate win in Montana and South Dakota, CNN reported Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has become the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, after earning the necessary 2,118 delegates. Sean Miller, president of the Drexel Democrats, said he and his group were very excited for Obama's nomination as the democratic candidate.

Colleges drop SAT requisite

Wake Forest University and Smith College have dropped the SAT and ACT requirement for admission, but Drexel will not follow suit, according to Joan McDonald, director of Enrollment Management. "Generally, we feel that using it does add to our ability to predict how successful a student will be," McDonald said.

USGA swears in next class of student representatives

The Undergraduate Student Association swore in 25 new members June 2 as they wrapped up their 2007-2008 year, having addressed 75 percent of issues they outlined, completing 25 issues and "looking into" 12 issues, according to Jeff Gardosh, past president of USGA.

Web site donates over 35 billion grains of rice

FreeRice.com, a web site launched as a way for the public to donate rice to underprivileged people around the world while improving vocabulary skills, has now reached approximately 35.5 billion grains of rice donated. FreeRice donated over 537,163,380 grains of rice when it was launched in October 2007; in comparison, in May 2008, 4,657,641,260 grains of rice were donated, according to the organization's web site.

School offers free tuition

BEREA, Ky. - This is the season of mixed emotions for parents of the college bound. The joy of a letter of acceptance is followed by the sobering message of a tuition bill. They were supposed to reply by Thursday to the school of their child's choice, committing themselves to the burden of what a bachelor's degree can cost.
