PVCA, students vote on parking

The Powelton Village Civic Association held a meeting May 19 to vote on the extended permit parking hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The results of the vote have not yet been released. Drexel students and other Powelton Village residents packed the Community Education Center's Meetinghouse Theatre for their chance to vote and voice their opinions.

Provost resigns for job at Northeastern University

Drexel University Provost Stephen Director resigned May 27 to take the position of Northeastern University provost, according to Northeastern and Drexel officials. Director's resignation will take effect June 30, allowing enough time for an interim Provost to be selected, according to University spokesman Philip Terranova.

D.U. expands to California

Drexel University announced May 22 it will be opening a Center for Graduate Studies in in Sacramento, Calif. The announcement comes almost a year after the University began exploring an opportunity to open a satellite campus in Placer County. In August 2007, a 1,100-acre donation of land in Roseville, Calif.

SAFAC funding questioned

The Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee recently released funding allocations to Drexel's undergraduate student organizations, ranging from $300,000 to $112, leading some students to question the wide distribution of funds and SAFAC's allocation process.

Greg Paradee, a sophomore majoring in information systems, has started DUcoopreview.com, a web site where students can read anonymous student reviews of co-op employers. Mir Hussain, a sophomore majoring in biomedical engineering, said he values the co-op program at Drexel and that the new web site is a "great idea.

Student-created soap opera begins filming and production

Construction delayed, zoning variance cited

Two campus construction projects scheduled to be completed this spring, the new tennis courts at 34th Street and Lancaster Avenue and the Powelton Green Park at 31st Street and Powelton Avenue, have experienced delays. The tennis courts and Powelton Green are now expected to be complete by the end of July and September, respectively, according to James Katsaounis, executive director of communications and marketing for the Division of Student Life and Administrative Services.

Admins, students, officials break ground at new dorm

Drexel students, faculty and staff came together May 21 with the Powelton Village community to break ground on the new 34th Street residence hall. Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff Tobey Oxholm said that seven years ago there was no relationship between Drexel and the Powelton Village Community, and now they have collaborated to become an "active, dynamic community.

Senior send-off planned

The Traditions Program will hold an event for graduating seniors called "Bon Voyage" June 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the Moshulu at Penn's Landing. The Bon Voyage event is a University-backed celebration for seniors in acknowledgement of the hard work they have done in their tenure at Drexel, according to Jacob Rozran, a junior commerce and engineering major and member of the Drexel traditions committee.

Student Life Awards Banquet focuses on leadership

Drexel University held its 11th annual Student Life Awards Banquet May 21 to celebrate students' achievements for their accomplishments in fields such as academics, student organizations and service. "This is one of the best days at Drexel," David Ruth, dean of students, said.
