With the onslaught of lawsuits against college students by the Recording Industry of America, Drexel University decided to take a welcome and innovative approach - work with students to give them the music they demand legally. Starting in 2005, Drexel partnered with Napster and the iTunes Music Store to bring music to Drexel students.
As some of you have probably heard by now, Stephen Colbert announced on Tuesday's episode of the Colbert Report that he will be running for president of the United States. However, Colbert will only be running in his home state of South Carolina. With red, white and blue balloons falling around him he proudly proclaimed that he would be running as both a Democrat and a Republican, and declared himself the "Favorite Son of South Carolina," in clear opposition to John Edwards' title as "Native Son" of the state.
How far have humans really progressed? Technologically speaking, there is no doubt we are exponentially more advanced than the days of stone arrowheads and crude wheels. If the discussion is about our understanding of the world around us, one could argue that we have come a long way from, for example, the Dark Ages.
I was riding my bike past Rittenhouse Square on my way home from work one brisk Tuesday evening when a flock of protesters caught my eye. They were a lovely group of people, young and old, proudly holding signs above their heads in hopes of pulling the attention of the rush hour mob away from the daily grind and onto a critical issue: healthcare for America's children.
We went out in a colossal group of eight, our hands firmly shoved in our pockets and scarves rolled multiple times around our necks. We suburbanites weren't braving the elements on a characteristically cold October night - we were fighting the city. I don't need to tell any student on campus that, a few blocks from Drexel, a daily death is no anomaly.
In a rather surprising statement, Condoleezza Rice recently said that it was time for the formation of a Palestinian state in order to bring the decades of sporadic violence in Israel to an end. This is not the first time a US official has stated that some sort of two-state solution is important, but it is the first time that a member of the current administration has stated the plan so bluntly.
