Drexel freshman Mia Sardella surrendered to Upper Darby Police on May 22 to face murder charges in connection with the death of her child and has been released on $250,000 bail after a hearing held May 23. Sardella has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder and concealing the death of a child, among other offenses, according to court documents.
Two Drexel students awoke early Saturday morning to the smell of smoke and calls of "fire" from a neighbor in their apartment at 3616 Baring Street. Vishesh Singh, a junior majoring in chemical engineering explained that when he was first alerted of the fire by his neighbor he had no idea of the severity.
The University chapter of Engineers Without Borders has partnered with a veteran chapter from Rowan University to work on an improved water supply system in Myramir, El Salvador and Laseiba, El Salvador. Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity hosted Drexel University's first annual Relay for Life raising over $10,000 for cancer research May 20. The day started off with the opening ceremony hosted by James "Bruiser" Flint, Drexel Men's Basketball Head Coach. Flint, who lost his father to cancer, offered his help and support for years to come.
Safety and campus construction dominated the night's discussion as University President Constantine Papadakis held his final town hall meeting for the academic year on May 21. Papadakis began the town hall by unveiling a new wave of construction for the next two years: three new buildings.
The Undergraduate Student Government Association passed a resolution May 14 recommending that new campus buildings be designed in an environmentally conscious manner. The resolution specifically addresses the possibility of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for new buildings, such as the wellness center.

Senator Barack Obama spoke in the city of Philadelphia at a presidential fundraiser at the Electric Factory, May 22. The 45-year-old Democratic senator from Illinois addressed a packed house of about 2,000 people for about 30 minutes. "I am thrilled to be back in the city of brotherly love," Obama said.
