Students to receive texts about campus emergencies

In the aftermath of the Virginia Tech massacre many universities are looking solve the problem of communicating students in the event of an emergency and 'texting' is the leading solution. At Drexel, officials plan to use text messaging to notify students in the event of a campus crisis.

New Dance major offered at University

A new undergraduate major in dance will be offered to students at the University in the fall of 2008. This major, which is being offered through the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree through a combination of both the performance aspects and the career applications of the dance field.

AEPi honors professor killed at Virgina Tech

Drexel's Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter held a service in remembrance of Virginia Tech Professor Liviu Librescu and all of those who died in the massacre April 26. Born in Romania, Liviu Librescu survived the Holocaust before going on to become an accomplished scientist in his native country.

Chuck Barris signs new book on campus

Former game show host and Drexel alumnus Chuck Barris spoke at the Bossone Auditorium May 2. Widely regarded as a pioneer of reality television, Barris was on campus to introduce his latest book The Big Question. "This is the best book that I have ever written," Barris said, prefacing the night.

DrexelOne outages due to flooding

Flooding in the basement of the Korman Center April 25 caused the temporary disablement of DrexelOne services. "During the installation of some electrical feeder lines, a water pipe was damaged on the first floor of the Korman Center," said Ken Blackney, associate vice president of Information Resources & Technology.

School district proposes layoffs

The Philadelphia School District is considering laying off over 100 teachers as part of 98.5 million dollars in proposed budget cuts for the district, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. Drexel has a longstanding relationship with the school district and officials at the University remain confident that the cuts will not impact the partnership.

Public safety seeks identities of vandals

University officials are investigating the theft and vandalism of six athletics banners outside the Daskalakis Athletic Center over the course of the past four months. The most recent incident occurred on Saturday shortly after 12:30 a.m. with a banner being damaged.
