University approves SEPTA discount

Commuters at the University will be able to obtain discounted TransPasses from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority starting fall term. The University and SEPTA have developed a program where students will be able to purchase TransPasses from SEPTA at a 10 percent discount.

Three students arrested in U. Crossings

Members of Drexel Men's tennis team accused of burglary, theft and trespassing.

Three members of the Drexel's men's tennis team were arrested after allegedly burglarizing several University Crossings apartments early Monday morning. Carlo Pangilinan, a sophomore, Ben Trabin, a junior, and Jarrod Popvice, a freshman, were all arrested by the Philadelphia Police in Pangilinan's room at University Crossings after being identified on security camera footage.

NY attorney general annonunces intent to sue

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced April 19 his intent to sue Drexel University for its relationship with the student loan provider, Education Finance Partners. Drexel is the first school that has been threatened with legal action. "The agreements provided in substance, that Drexel would promote EFP's private loan program and in exchange would receive a portion of loans Drexel students placed with EFP," read a letter sent from the Attorney General's office to Drexel's General Counsel Toby Oxholm.

UPDATE: Drexel responds to Attorney General's intent to sue

Drexel University has issued a statement in response to the New York Attorney General, Andrew Cuomo's intent to sue by calling the allegations "without foundation in law or in fact." In a statement released Thursday evening, the University said it would "vigorously defend its position in this matter and will fully respond to any lawsuit in due course" The statement further acknowledges that the University first learned of the intent to sue after The Triangle received a letter from the Attorney General's office and called the University's legal department for comment.

Caneris, Papadakis welcome Tucker at reception

A reception welcoming incoming Senior Vice President James Tucker was held on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 in the Bossone Research Center. Tucker will replace Anthony Caneris, as senior vice president for student life and administrative services in June. "Tony has big feet," President Constantine Papadakis said.

Student passes during surgery

University student Dante Angerville died April 5, as a result of complications during surgery. He was nineteen. Angerville was a second year student, majoring in Civil Engineering and had just finished his second year at Drexel. He was classified as a pre-junior based on credit hours.

Prominent figures attend CoL ribbon cutting ceremony

The University formally opened its new College of Law with a ribbon cutting ceremony April 9. Supreme Court Justice Samuel J. Alito, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter and Philadelphia City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell attended the festivities. The event was held outside the College of Law building, located at 3320 Market Street.

SCDC develops Co-op abroad in Greece, India, others

The Steinbright Career Development Center has begun expanding international co-op opportunities to Greece, India, Italy and Ireland Executive Director Peter Franks said Monday. "What we are in the process of doing is developing at more jobs for Drexel students to give them more options," Franks said.

Rudman Institute names new director

The Kal and Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies at the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design will be welcoming former WHYY Station Manager Paul Gluck as the new executive director next year. Gluck, 53, will trade in his title as vice president at Philadelphia's public television and radio station to join the AWCoMAD staff.

State sues Philly for control of casino laws

The Pennsylvania Gaming Board filed suit against Philadelphia City Council in Pennsylvania Supreme Court Thursday with intentions of blocking the city's authority over proposed casinos. In December, the state gaming board authorized investors to construct the Sugarhouse and Foxwoods casinos on separate sites along the Delaware River.

Washington takes note of loan scandal

The New York Attorney General's probe into the relationship between schools and the student loan industry has reached the nation's capital, with Senator Edward Kennedy calling for an investigation, a presidential candidate weighing in and the suspension of a federal education official.
