East Hall will soon be renamed Caneris Hall, in honor of Anthony Caneris, the retiring senior vice president of Student Life and Administrative Services. "I think that Mr. Caneris has made significant contributions to Drexel University and student life during his tenure, and this is a wonderful way to honor him," said David Ruth, dean of students.
Adonis Smith, a freshman student in the College of Engineering, died in the early morning hours of Feb. 23. The 18-year-old Smith was playing a game of flag football on Buckley Field around midnight on Feb. 22 when he collapsed. According to David Ruth, dean of students, Smith was having seizures and was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital via ambulance.
The University is seeking student input on construction of a wellness center at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Department of Athletics and the Undergraduate Student Government Association are conducting a survey in conjunction with Sasaki, the architecture firm that is charged with the construction of this facility.
After one of the most successful weeks in Drexel athletics history, school spirit filled the Main Building as hundreds of students and faculty gathered for a basketball pep rally Feb. 28. While the Drexel pep band played and the cheerleaders stirred up the crowd, basketball fans filed onto the first floor and squeezed around the banisters of the second and third floors of the Great Court.
Dean Kamen, an accomplished inventor and advocate for science and technology, was honored at the College of Engineer's Engineer of the Year ceremony Feb. 23 at the Rittenhouse Hotel. According to Selçuk Güçeri, dean of the College of Engineering, the banquet was the largest the CoE has ever held.
The Philadelphia Street Department announced the expansion of the residential recycling collection program March 1. Over 93,000 West and Southwest Philadelphia residents, including Powelton Village and Drexel's campus, will join Northeast Philadelphia residents by setting out an expanded list of recyclable items for curbside pickup.

At the Oct. 16 Convocation ceremony, University President Constantine Papadakis unveiled massive changes planned for the Drexel campus. These changes included replacing Stratton and Matheson Halls, and expanding the Daskalakis Athletic Center, the Academic Building, the Rush Building and MacAlister Hall.
Acclaimed actor Tim Reid, one of the most prolific television actors ever, spoke to the University community and fans interested in his career on Feb. 26 in the Ruth Auditorium. College students will recognize Reid from his roles as Ray Campbell on the show Sister, Sister and Hyde's Dad on That '70s Show.
