U-Vault, operated by redBoomerang(http://www.redboomerang.com/), is launching an extended pilot program with Villanova University beginning with the Fall 2005 semester for it's laptop program. According to a redBoomerang Press Release, "An initial pilot was conducted successfully in the Spring 2005 semester leading to this larger program... Villanova is piloting the software to determine if they should include the data protection features of UVault."
U-Vault's facilities is provide by Cervalis, a premier provider of IT infrastructure solutions including business continuity/rapid recovery, managed hosting, managed security, managed storage, networking & telecommunications and co-location.
U-Vault allows students to automatically save their schoolwork and related information from their computer to an off site location. redBoomerang uses technology that compresses your information into small packages. Beneficial for sending hundreds of single individual files or very large files. Uploads maybe scheduled and automated at the user's leisure, and only need to be performed once.
The scheduled backups can be performed through internet connections of 256Kbps or higher, as they're connections are usually continuous, preventing partial file uploads. Backups are protected by the state of the art 448-bit Blowfish encryption algorithm to prevent unauthorized access. Unlike some conventional backup mediums such as CD-Rs, thumb drives, and portable hard drives, U-Vault does not save over previously saved versions of the file but also saves every copy of the file ever made. U-Vault pilot programs can be arranged for evaluation of the product in a university setting, including student surveys to assess the value proposition for the university. Pricing starts at $25 per student per year for about many gigabytes of storage space.

U-Vault Benefits:
1. Easily installs over the Internet or pre-installed on computers ordered through the university
2. Automatically runs backup based on scheduled times - wherever an Internet connection is available
3. Keeps up to 30 days of versions of files - not just a single copy
4. Lost or damaged (virus) files restore without IT support
5. Automated email following each scheduled backup to alert student of results
6. Compresses and encrypts data prior to sending off-site for complete security and minimum bandwidth usage
7. 10GB compressed storage standard (equivalent to as much as 20Gb or more uncompressed)
