'Lost' fans jump ship to less problematic 'Heroes'

Abstract:
While concern over ABC's Lost has grown louder, NBC's new hit Heroes has become an instant critical darling and fan favorite. In the face of increased criticism, fans have begun to jump ship, with Lost hemorrhaging viewers at a rapid pace. The biggest question facing Lost is whether or not the writers have any idea how the story is going to end....

heroes is only in its first season, they will run out of ideas soon enough and you will be tired of it by the time it has been on as long as Lost. The problem with you people is you have no patience. Lost creators have mentioned several times they know what they are doing and how it is going to end. If you did a little research you would see that Lost creators are working with ABC to find an end date so they can plan the rest of it out. BTW 12-13 million average viewers at 10 pm is pretty good on the ratings scale.

Patience isn't the problem. The Wire requires a lot more patience than Lost. What do you want the Lost creators to say? And it dropped in the ratings heavily this season. It's at its all time low.

I agree that Heroes is better formatted than Lost.

Lost has really lost it this year. Nothing holds together.

It's all about the pacing and speed of the story line. Heroes moves quickly. Lost is slow as molasses!

According to some articles, Kring has already planned up to Seasaon 5. After that, there could be issues. But, only if he doesn't contine to plan ahead.

I watch both shows and love both of them. However, I love Lost more. I love the characters more than anything, and unlike what other websites are reporting, the last episode was awesome.

Your article assumes that the writer's of Heroes are moving on a whim here listening to every word the ratings say.
Okay, NBC listens to ratings but NBC, as whole, has marketing genius and knows exactly what to do to keep you coming back for me. However, Heroes (unlike, let's say, Friends) is based on plot line and not based on witty writing. Heroes sells itself quite easily.
Lost, although around longer, is quite unlike Heroes in a variety of ways and I don't know why it's so compared when the concepts are completely different.

i used to love lost... i still do, but my love for it has unfortunately diminished. i would often explain to people that each season of lost starts on a high, dwindles around mid-season, but builds to a grand climas. so far in season 3, all i've witnessed is constant dwindling. which is a shame because it is a damn fine tv show.

heroes, on the other hand, i am in love with. the pace, the characters, the story arcs, the mystery, the crossover story lines - everything is absolutely fantastic. with the exception of chapter 15 (which i thought to be one of the weakest of the season so far), it literally gets better and better as the season progresses.

i'm positive that lost will come full circle, and if the creators get their way and determine their preferred end date (anyone know if they've come to an agreement with abc yet?) - they'll be able to move back to the series they originally intended to present to us.

The point is Lost is doomed beyond three or four seasons - heck, even two, because there's the central question of getting off the island. Lost does not answer questions or mysteries, or resolve things. Come next season, they'll still be on the freakin' island. Heroes is expert at actually answering questions. Lost is stretched out. With Heroes, you KNOW that the issue of the nuclear bomb will be resolved, and not continue into the third season. It will be over in a few episodes. You can only stretch the plot so far

Granted all of the flashbacks worked for a time being in order to give you more insight into the characters we have grown to love on lost. There comes a point tho where its just too much and the more flash backs an episode has the less the story pushes forward. I agree with the above posters comment on the story pacing comparison. Lost does have great characters and i feel that there is some conclusion or final story arch starting to focus, but im just tired of leaving on a high note of every episode and then the beginning of the next episode starts and sometimes feels like that big build up was for nothing. Heroes on the otherhand feels very perpetual in its story movement. I didnt not like the characters of heroes as much at first but all for nicky and her family have grown on me. I just hope nbc doesnt think that tv viewers want unexplained or crazy character connections making the community of the cast seem small instead on a more global scale

Heroes is boring and unoriginal. It's just like every other comic book story out there. How people find out they have powers and then how they interact...wow. Spiderman, x-men, superman, and anything else. Lost is original and had way bigger ratings in season one than heroes did. The writers have a whole story and not just plans to interact characters. Lost has way better acting, writing, and directing. If abc didn't split up seasons and move the show from 8 to 10 o'clock the show would still be pulling down crazy numbers (hopefully next season abc will move it back to 8). And the show is still number one in it's major demographic and yet it gets all this crap? So many people solely watch the show on dvd too now. Lost is definitely for the more educated though and heroes is more for the "kid in me" so I think it is ridiculous that they are even compared. I can't wait to see what heroes ratings are after 2 1/2 seasons.

You sound like some random hater just trying to make excuses. Heroes is more than just "How people find out they have powers and then how they interact" they're trying to stop an oncoming disaster. If this was in the same format as lost, they would still be trying to stop this same disaster after 3 or 4 seasons, but it will all be solved within the next 5-6 episode of this season, and next season will carry on to a new plot.

I personally haven't felt as attached to lost as I was in season 1-2, but I don't think the show has jumped the shark with no hope of returning, there is still hope for the show, but they need to start answering their dang questions instead of raising more(like Heroes has done). If Lost keeps this up for one or two more seasons the show is doomed.

I was a LOST FANATIC but since Season 3 ....i have turned into a hater who watches the show cuz he is addicted but hates it more & more with every passsing episode.

Heroes is Fast, structured, Revealing & cool. I find my solace in heroes.

Great show.

Heroes wont run out of ideas like LOST. Each season would be different & not a continuation like a serialized drama. More like 24 than (stupid) Lost.

By the way, I was a die hard Lost lover, now I have turned it off my life.

Lost is great TV. Heroes is great TV! Love them both. To the ney-sayers out there: It?s the journey that matters, not the destination.

Lost loses it, when you introduce great characters, spend lots of time talking about them, do whole episodes on a flashback for them, only to kill them off. What was the point?

Admittedly lost is a more unique storyline than Heroes, but they both take their pages from a real life drama, rather then portraying them outright as a science fiction.
Real life issues with money, family, love, and life.
Heroes takes it much further by examining who we are.
If anyone dared tell me "We're the good guys" without explaining anything and telling lies all the time, I'd punch them in the face too. Good guys have no reason to lie. Lost has too many plot holes in it to make it compelling entertainment.

Heroes has its issues too. Chapter 5, Hiros. Doesn't Mohinder Suresh notice that Peter Petrelli is suddenly part way down the train car?
Why doesn't Nathan Petrelli's pants come off when he flys off from HRG and breaks the speed of sound?

They are both great series, but Lost could try to answer a few more questions without hurting the story.

The producers of lost know exactly how and when they are going to end it around episode 100

Lost's problem is the constant flashbacks. They take wayyy too much time and leave little time for actual stories on the island that matter. They should use flashbacks every 3/4 episodes instead of EVERY SINGLE EPISODE.

I couldn't care less about their past lives, I want to know what's happening on the bloody island.

*spoiler*
In the latest Lost episode you learn Claire's father is also Jack's father, but it doesn't really make a damned bit of difference. What does it matter? They find out they're related... is that really going to cause major conflict? They'll probably just go "Wow, that's weird" and that'll be the end of it.
