Pretentious Penn finally visiting DAC after almost a century

Abstract:
Drexel men's basketball coach Bruiser Flint had been politicking for his team to host Penn ever since his tenure began eight years ago.

"It's the 20th meeting of Drexel-Penn," Flint said last year after the Dragons knocked off the Quakers in overtime for just their fifth win in the history of the rivalry....

"We'd just like to win-or lose-in the DAC, and now the opportunity is upon us." I don't think anybody at Drexel wants to lose...

The walk is actually .6 miles from the from the Palestra.

Canceling classes would be incredibly dumb. Our venue seats 2,500 people. Assume we get 2,000 seats for students, that's still 8,000+ students that don't get in. And the fans that do get in will probably be a majority of the die-hard Drexel fans, and the rest probably don't care/won't watch on tv. I'll be skipping class, but don't cancel it. That's idiotic. What else would I expect from Mike though.

Your points are well taken.

Obviously I want us to win, but regardless it is a historic event, and the game's outcome is to an extent irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

I was being facetious when I wrote 0.1.

Your final point, the fact that we shouldn't cancel classes, I disagree with.

We need to make students aware of our athletic teams and hope that even if they don't go, they'll watch the game on television. More importantly, they'll watch it on ESPN.

Just beat them to shut them up. Go, Dragons!

DAC Pack

The DAC Pack will be in full effect. This year's shirts are in, and will be unveiled on or around Midnight Madness. Get your free shirt, stand together in the new student sections, and show that school down the street who runs University City.

As far as the fact that die-hard fans will go regardless, that sadly can't always be the case. I call myself a fan, but the fact is that a have a 4 credit core class during the game and one absence drops me a full letter grade. I don't think that's worth it. This is why canceling classes for awhile (not all day, that's ridiculous) is a good idea.

I understand the Drexel fans wanting the home game, but really it seems to be a homecourt advantage for both teams when the game is at the Palestra. I have been to the game against Drexel the last two years and I am pretty sure you guys outnumbered our fans. I really feel like there should be an equitable share of home games, but the fact that so many more people actually get to attend a game if it is held at the Palestra should be the deciding factor. The Palestra has room for Penn and Drexel fans alike, but I would imagine there would be about 20 lucky Penn fans in attendance for this game at the DAC. Unless you are willing to let half of the arena be Penn fans like we do at the Palestra, it really is an unfair advantage. We have to travel just as far as you, which is fine, but we want to be able to get in and see our team play, which you actually get to do at the Palestra. Calling us pretentious is pretty self-righteous if you ask me. I don't see how letting 200% more people see the game in person is pretentious...

I prefer attending games at the Palestra over the Dac as a Drexel fan. However, with the construction at the Dac why would it not be at the Palestra until the Armory is built. The Dac isn't big enough to handle a high school basketball game let alone a great game like Drexel vs Penn.

I hope the Armory contruction starts soon at this rate I doubt the Armory will be finished by 2014.

You realize this isn't a BCS conference team, it's Penn, and they are right nextdoor.

What IS the hold up on the Armory? A game of this importance would have been a perfect unveiling for the DU version of the Palestra. Please hurry up and get the Armory ready... recruiting, TV, and rep would all be enhanced.
