San Francisco city of true caring for fellow man

Abstract:
William Mulgrew's commentary two issues ago ("An engrossing tale of two congressional districts," The Triangle, Feb. 25, 2005, p. 13) demonstrates such a high degree of ignorance regarding the city of San Francisco, I feel it necessary to address Mr. Mulgrew and the students of Drexel University to correct possible misconceptions....

Interestingly enough, that headline is terrible and was not included anywhere in my original letter to either Mr. Mulgrew or the Drexel paper.

I'd also like to add that my comments about San Francisco not "leaving people on the streets to die" were direct retorts to Mr. Mulgrew referring to the city government of SF giving "handouts." Yes, we have a homeless problem. But he criticized us for the homeless problem AND for our attempts to alleviate the problem. Which is it?

Jess,

Editors have the priority on headlines. I chose it because there are space considerations. If you don't like it, too bad, because there is much more to the headline than what the author wants. I try to make accomodations to authors as much as possible, but when it comes down to it, the layout has to be served.

And as for what I deleted, the reason there's some of your content missing is because it was personal insults against Mr. Mulgrew for his spelling, and you made pot shots at him. Ironically, your letter was also full of spelling mistakes.

And I do not publish retorts to authors, only letters addressed to the whole.

Touché!

I'm also curious about something... why do you guys call them "ed-ops" and not "op-eds"?
