I realize that when one is in college library time seems very important. When you look back you will realize that the least important things you learned were from books.
The service opportunity lets you learn where you fit in the world.
Let's hope that you will learn that the better job is not always the one that pays the most.

"It is more important to get a better job where you will be able to pay off your loans" says the business student heading for Wall Street.

Leaving college without student loans, however, gives one the option of accepting low paying jobs, such as being a teacher, that might appeal to you rather than just chasing after the biggest salary you can find.

Neither candidate is promising to do anything to make teaching a more lucrative or appealing career choice, yet the nation needs more and better teachers. At least Obama's plan will remove some barriers for graduates to choose that career.

I hope this effort really succeeds. Though admittedly $4000 towards tuition is not much at some of the larger public universities, it's at least a start.

If Obama wants to amend the tax code, why not just give a tax deduction for families who have children who go to college? Rather than a "credit", (which will probably just add another complicated layer to the tax code) just simply deduct the amount owed by a certain percentage, depending on how many children are attending college and how much payment on tuition is required.

In addition, in order to fix the rising costs, one must understand why it costs so much. The answer, what it comes down to it is inflation, thanks to the Federal Reserve. When a product like food goes up in price, people have to pay more for it. Because they pay more, they need more money. So teachers, professors, and all of the authors & publishers need a larger salary in order to cover the rising costs, so the bill ends up getting shoved at you.

Now, what does this have to do with the Fed? The Fed essentally controls all aspects of the government and since there is no check-and-balance for it, it can borrow and print money without every worrying about paying it back. That's why Nixon cut the off the gold standard; the Fed simply creates so much fake money that it no longer represented the gold it was supposed to be backed against. Because of all the borrowing, the dollar has become seriously deflated in value and that's why everything is so much more expensive than what it was 20 years ago. JFK tried to get rid of the Fed, but he didn't live long enough to get it into effect. Ron Paul wanted to abolish the Fed, but he didn't win enough primary votes. So therefore, the best choice would be Bob Barr because he wants to drastically shrink the powers of the Federal Reserve and return to a more stable currency.
