the only thing irksome is how someday after you are done all your complaining about the patriarchy you will realize that by reacting to it you are only perserving its existence.

This posed with due respect and honest curiousity: How so? The perpetuation of the patriarchy lies entirely on its pervasiveness, to the point where people, unaware, accept the paradigm of dominance and submission that it is modeled on as "human nature." Drawing attention and awareness to the everyday manifestations of this model, labelling it for what it is (patriarchy), moves us closer to its dissolution.

I don't understand how Drexel isn't taking action against them. It doesn't matter that their alumni took action against the chapter. This is a crime and I'm surprised that the college is just sitting back and watching what happens. The funniest part about this is that Charles Williams and one of their brothers think that their going to be back in the fall. According to Williams, they were going to reorganize the chapter anyway. So basically, he's saying that they did terrible things prior to this incident? If Drexel has any common sense, they will kick the fraternity off so that they can't do any more harm and ruin Drexel's reputation.

What exactly is the crime? What laws did they break?

Depending on the actual content it can be many laws violated. If these were freshman or students in for orientation they many very well be younger than 18. So if the content was in any way pornographic you can have distrubution of porn or even child porn depending on the age. Really think about it, if Duke guys can have hell over a stripper screaming rape then having picutres of "questionable" nature can't be good.

Whether or not an actual crime was committed (certainly at the very least libel would be indicated here, per Keith-Smith v Williams, etc., though the individuals would have to take upon themselves the daunting task of pressing charges) what happened was a violation, a public shaming that *should* feel wrong to people. Our culture has a friggin' fetish for the humiliation of women. Try reversing the roles (a sorority posting pictures of men). It doesn't feel quite the same because the situation of women differs from that of men. Women are the constant subject of objectification, harrassment, domination and above all, judgment. All of which, are normalized to an extent such that these are things we should not only expect, but be grateful for.

Perhaps I am reading the sentiment of this comment incorrectly, but a response is due to: "if Duke guys can have hell over a stripper screaming rape." You know, I don't know why I don't scream rape all willy-nilly-like all the time! I mean, just look how profitable and life-affirming it is! Just look at the DeAnza case, the Duke case, this story (1), or this (2), or this (3), etc, etc.! Look how well everything turned out for those women! Lucky bitches! For anyone who think men are the real victims, victims of callous misandry by vindictive women ?screaming rape? take a look here (4) and here (5). Maybe women wouldn?t say they?ve been raped if men didn?t rape women.

Kaitlyn, I also think that, "The patriarchy is really getting irksome. Disgusting, entitled assholes" just like you do, and by Patriarchy, I actually meant; Matriarchy.

You sexist cunt.

Respect,
Mart

P.S. My best wishes and prayers go out to all the victims and all of their families involved in this Delta Sig related tragedy.
