High hopes for John A. Fry

Abstract:
Our University has been without a permanent president for almost a year since the passing of Constantine "Taki" Papadakis in April 2009. I hope that the new president is positive for Drexel. I believe that one of the single most important factors in strengthening the institution is to lower the acceptance rate of admitted students. Drexel has a 75% acceptance rate, which translates to a public perception that "they'll take anybody". This makes it much less appealing to high level students, and much less probable that the stronger student will enroll after being accepted. I hope that President Fry will take this into consideration early on. It's human nature to want what's difficult to get. While we may not become an Ivy anytime soon, we can certainly become an institution that holds more academic prestige than it currently does.

Where they should be focused is the multinational academic market. Take a look at how well this worked cities like Toronto and Vancouver.
